15. Pocahontas – 12 and 21-Years Old
There’s nothing very spectacular about the age of the Disney version of Pocahontas. She’s supposed to be about 21 in Pocahontas, so this is all above board in our eyes. But this differs quite a lot from the historical Pocahontas, who died by the time she was 21. In the historical accounts, Pocahontas was about 10 when John Smith first landed. When she saved Smith’s life before he was executed, as she does in the film, Pocahontas was only 12-years old. Rather than become romantically linked, Smith saw himself as more of a father figure to Pocahontas. So, again, nothing wrong with her age in the film, but next time you watch it remember that the story was based on the actions of a child, not a woman.
