Art history is getting a Disney makeover in a new series of illustrations by artist Carlos Gromo. There are people who believe that learning art history is only for artists, critics, and other workers in that field. However, this illustrator believes that it is important for everyone to learn about it. He saw that many people did not know much about art history or famous paintings, so he started the project looking to educate in a fun way. He hopes these Disney paintings will encourage more people to learn about art history.
His series features such animated movie classics as 101 Dalmatians, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, and Sleeping Beauty. Some of his reimaginings fit all too well. For instance, Belle and Beast are depicted in the famous painting “The Kiss” by Gustav Klimt. Just like in the painting, they look like a couple embracing each other in beautifully decorated robes. Meanwhile, Roger and Anita Radcliffe from 101 Dalmatians are shown as a farmer and his daughter in the famous 1930 painting “American Gothic” by Grant Wood.
