Oh yes, you read that right!

Disney has indeed announced that a Lion King movie AND a TV series will be hitting our screens very soon!

The movie will follow the story of Simba and Nala's second son, Kion. Alongside a group of his pals, including a honey badger, a hippo, an egret and a cheetah, he will adventure around the pride lands. Solving problems and dealing with obstacles in his way, he will endeavor to prove himself as leader of the Lion Guard, a sort of military of the land. A news release for the show reads:

"Throughout the movie and the series, the diverse team of young animals will learn how to utilize each of their unique abilities to solve problems and accomplish tasks to maintain balance within the Circle of Life, while also introducing young viewers to the vast array of animals that populate the prodigious African landscape."

Sounds fantastic!

Both the movie and TV series will feature Rob Lowe as the voice of Simba and actress Gabrielle Union (remember her from Being Mary Jane and as the bitchy cheerleader in Bring It On?) as Nala:

And while their cub Kion will be voiced by Max Charles, arguably the best part of the casting announcement is that Simba's father and our one true king lives on because James Earl Jones will be returning to reprise his role as Mufasa! HOORAY!
