In a show dedicated to death, it’s no surprise to see that certain instruments used in wiping out the walkers (and other humans…) have become iconic.

As bodies of the dead and undead continue to pile up at an alarming rate, the creators need various ways to keep things interesting, after all, there’s only so many times you can watch a zombie get plunged with a machete before it becomes a natural occurrence.

We’re at the stage now where characters have preferred methods of defending themselves/killing others, ranging from firearms to blades to any old object they can find. Some weapons on this list are long-term, others were one-off moments of improvisation, yet all of them became iconic in their own way…

10. Daryl’s Chain Whip

The laws of physics simply don’t apply to Daryl Dixon. Without the usual arsenal of weapons at his disposal, the fan-favourite was forced to improvise while stuck in the Wolves’ trap. Metal pole? Sharp glass? Nope, a chain.

Now watch him whip… Daryl halves the skulls of three walkers with one slick swoosh. Is that even possible? I’d like to say ‘yes’ but the answer is surely ‘no’. However, it simply doesn’t matter because the chain whip moment has earned its place as one of the most badass killing scenes in the show, gaining iconic notoriety in the process.

9. Jessie’s Scissors

Another one-time only weapon from recent episodes was Jessie’s hairdressing scissors, proving that basically any household item can be turned into a merciless killing tool if the need arises.

They were first seen as Jessie gave Rick a smart new cut upon arrival at Alexandria, but the scissors quickly found their way into the heart of fans…and an unsuspecting Wolf attacker. They show how far Jessie has come from naive mother to hardened protector, but with her moronic sons still causing havoc in Alexandria, is time running out?
