Westeros—the continent upon which the seven kingdoms that everybody is fighting over are located—looks an awful lot like England if it had an upside Ireland attached to its butt . George R.R. Martin isn't a super-high-tech guy, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that he designed the most important landmass in his novel with an atlas, a pair of scissors and some tape.
Take note of the location of Hadrian's wall in the U.K. Pretty much exactly where The Wall is in Westeros. Which reminds me...
