There has been quite a bit of controversy surrounding the upcoming live-action remake of Disney's Mulan, and it just got even more dramatic.

Everyone — and I mean everyone — remembers the character Li Shang from the classic animated film, and if you don't, go give it a rewatch.

Captain Li Shang was Mulan's commander as she pretended to be a man in the Chinese army so her elderly father didn't have to fight.

He trained Mulan and her fellow soldiers to become incredible warriors, and the two caught feelings for one another in the end, giving Mulan a top-notch love interest in the film.

Well, apparently, Disney doesn't believe in love anymore because they have allegedly cut Li Shang from the film entirely and replaced him with a new love interest: Chen Hongui.

According to the casting notice posted by Twitter account @nerdyasians, the character is described as "full of himself, with a mean bullying streak to him."

The description also says that Hongui sees Mulan as his chief rival, "but after learning that his rival is a woman, his intense feelings of rivalry turn into something very different, something like love."

So only when this jerk finds out Mulan has lady parts does he become attracted to her? We're not following.
