Disney is facing a bit of backlash with their latest casting news. The highly anticipated live-action version of Aladdin has added an original role that didn't appear in the 1992 animated film.

In a statement released by Disney, it was revealed that the new character is “a suitor from Skanland and potential husband for Princess Jasmine.”

Billy Magnussen has been cast as the new character, Prince Anders.

Magnussen is a Tony award nominee and has played royalty before as Rapunzel's Prince in Into the Woods.

Social media had some things to say about Disney adding a white actor to a film set in the Middle East.

There was mostly confusion.

A lot of confusion.

No one could understand how the new prince fit into the film.

Some people took not-so-subtle jabs at Disney.
