1. The Wailing

The Wailing is a 2016 film out of South Korea. This is a fantastic movie and will keep you guessing the whole time. It is long and filled with local mythos and symbolism, but very entertaining till the last scene.

"A stranger arrives in a little village and soon after a mysterious sickness starts spreading. A policeman is drawn into the incident and is forced to solve the mystery in order to save his daughter."

2. The Ritual

The Ritual out of the UK came out in 2017 on Netflix. Very entertaining movie and one of the coolest movie monsters to come out in a long time. Stylized and interesting, based on Scandinavian lore. Probably my favorite movie of last year.

"A group of college friends reunite for a trip to the forest, but encounter a menacing presence in the woods that's stalking them."

3. Raw

Raw is a French movie from 2016. This film goes all out with the blood, sex, nudity, and gore. Not for the squeamish but entertaining and original.

"When a young vegetarian undergoes a carnivorous hazing ritual at vet school, an unbidden taste for meat begins to grow in her."

4. Triangle

Another movie from the UK back in 2009, Triangle takes it's audience on a wild, unexpected ride. This is not only one of my favourite horror movies, but one of my favourite movies in general. Very underrated and suspenseful film.

"A group of friends suffer a yachting accident and take refuge on a cruise drifting on the open sea, but quickly realize they were better off on the upturned yacht"

5. The Secret Of Marrowbone

The Secret Of Marrowbone is 2017 flick out of Spain. While this movie is kind of a slow burn, it is very well done and memorable. The second half is mind-blowing and it completely pays off at the end.

"A young man and his three younger siblings, who have kept secret the death of their beloved mother in order to remain together, are plagued by a sinister presence in the sprawling manor in which they live."
